Staying Truly On The Go With A Portable GPS System

The global positioning system, also know by its popular acronym GPS, was initially developed over thirty years ago for a much grander purpose than locating the next town with a gas station and fast food restaurants during a cross country road trip. The technology evolved and in the recent years became available on a nation and world wide level to anyone who purchased a portable GPS system at the local electronics store.

Portable GPS systems are to the basic compass what a Mercedes is to a covered wooden wagon. There is so much more to these little gadgets than meets the eye. You do not need to be preparing to climb Mount Everest or braving the Amazonian jungles while treasure hunting to justify owning a portable GPS system. But you may feel a bit more equipped for any climbing, hunting, and trudging that come along once you have one of those bad boys.

Is That A Car In Your Pocket?

For a time, a large majority of portable GPS systems came attached to shiny new vehicles. This very neat upgrade was all the rage (and still is for the most part) until consumers began to see the extra and even neater perks to a portable car GPS that could actually be taken out of the car; that would make them easier to fit into pockets and next to the computer while uploading information.

Stolen radios are almost a thing of the past – thieves are much more interested in TomTom than Sirius. The most attractive plus to going with a portable GPS system is also the most obvious: it is hand held and thus can go with you. Whether you are walking a nature trail or in a rental car during vacation, your unit can be right there too. This is also a good point for anyone who owns more than one vehicle; you can have directions and even traffic conditions at the touch of a button regardless of what you are driving.

Many of the GPS units that are in vehicles cannot be automatically updated, so you must go back to the dealer time and time again. This is costly of your time and money if a service fee is incurred with each visit. There are many positive and negative aspects to adding a portable GPS system to your car, but owning and utilizing this amazing technology is most definitely a wise decision for yourself and your family. This is one investment you will not regret making.
